The General Services Department’s (GSD) mission is to provide leadership and best practices in real estate, design, construction, property management, and security to City departments and residents in a safe, reliable, and fiscally responsible manner. GSD is client-focused, customer responsive and committed to excellence.

GSD is an internal service department within the City of Houston. GSD ensures that other City departments have the necessary facilities, workspaces and resources to accomplish their business objectives. GSD provides building operations for nearly 400 facilities - over 8 million square feet of occupied space, management of major maintenance and capital improvement projects, security, real estate and administration of the City’s $350 million 5-year capital improvement program. To ensure these critical services are provided GSD has 292 employees and an annual budget of $66.2 million.

Talento Bilingue de Houston is one of the largest Latino cultural centers in the United States, and the Chinatown area showcases Houston's expanding Asian community.
